Nourishment
Each assignment is a vital ingredient in the meal of a Creative Life. I have never understood number crunchers or law enforcement officers who know nothing outside of the realm of their profession. Just like it seems obscure that I could walk the halls of a justice 12 hours a shift and go out into the world a mere 8 hrs later and see beauty amidst the wails of sirens and the call of chaos. I don't know how the two worlds coinside in my life but what I do know is that they are equally me.
Rule breaker and Rule enforcer.
The things I do for NBAF are the meat while the things I do else where are the sides. Nourishment was definitely served last Sat at the Rialto Theater. Can't Won't Don't Stop.. the title is a mouthful and the presentation was a 6 course meal with dessert.
Universes is by resume " a National / International ensemble Company of multi-disciplined writers and performers who fuse Poetry, Theater, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Politics, Down Home Blues and Spanish Boleros to create moving, challenging and entertaining theatrical works.
The group breaks the bounds of traditional theater to create their own brand, inviting old and new generations of theater crafters as well as the theater goers and new comers to reshape the face of American Theater." (http://www.universesonstage.com/)
The Dessert was Marc Bamuthi Joseph ( http://livingwordproject.org/core/) in his own words..."respect. . . i'm m'kai's dad an artist educator passionate being purveyor of stage ritual crowd mover i exist as spirit i live in word. . . that's the poetic fluff fluff. . . on tha real. . i am those things AND the artistic director at a non-profit literary arts, and youth empowerment center in san francisco called youth speaks, inc. i write, dance and teach all over the planet from stanford to harvard, pittsburgh to paris. when i'm not off trying to change the world, i'm usually glued to sportscenter, pulling for the yankees (where i'm from) and the raiders (where i'm at), or falling deeper in love with my son. "
